Finishing the Weaving series on my Dorothy Loom

This is it; we have come to the end of my weaving series! In this last video, I talk to you about the weaving of the fourth and final scarf of the series. At the end, I reveal the four woven scarves! This video also includes the reading of a weaving draft, three location changes and a cute cat! At the end of it, I’m finally moved-in in my new apartment. To me, I cannot find a better way to be finishing the weaving series on my Dorothy Loom.

So far in the series, we have seen the warp pattern and the weaving of the first scarf. We have also seen the weaving of the day scarf in the second part. Finally, we have seen the weaving of the night scarf in the third part.

The Weaving of the 4th scarf

For the weaving of this final scarf, I needed some help! I couldn’t decide what to weave! I had two options in mind: Bamboo Flowers and Mixed Twill cotton. So, I put them up to a vote. And it was the Bamboo Flowers option that won with 67% of the votes! I want to thank all of you who took a moment to vote either on YouTube or on Instagram. I really appreciate it!

The Yarn

As a result of the vote, the winning yarn is 8/2 Bamboo yarn from Maurice Brassard. The color is “Coquille” (BB8027) which means eggshell in English. This yarn is available at The Woolery. Here’s the link: https://woolery.com/maurice-brassard-bamboo-8-2-yarn.html?aff=214

The Draft Pattern

I will be weaving the draft pattern that can be found at the bottom of the page 35 of Anne Dixon’s Handweaver’s Pattern Directory. I really like this pattern because it reminds me of little flowers. Still, I did not weave the whole scarf with this pattern. Instead, I decided to have a little border of plain weave and the beginning and at the end of the scarf. I wove this plain weave for about 2.5cm (1”) long.

Honestly, I like how this yarn is shiny and soft. This off-white color also brings a lot of lightness to the scarf.

The Four Final Scarves

I’m super happy to present you the four scarves, all wet finished and trimmed. Let’s take a look at each one of them individually.

This First Scarf

For this first scarf, I kept things very simple. I decided to do a plaid effect and replicate the warp into the weft. I also used the exact same yarn in the warp and in the weft, which is 8/2 Tencel from Maurice Brassard. This yarn is available through The Woolery’s website here: https://woolery.com/maurice-brassard-tencel-8-2-yarn-1.html?aff=214

Here are the colors used: Slate (LEC-T112), Navy (LEC-T8019), Charcoal (LEC-T4275), Brun (LEC-T8024)

I also did a simple 2/2 twill.

Day and Night

The second and the third scarves go together in a day and night theme.

For the day scarf, I did a draft pattern that reminded me of sun rays (Anne Dixon’s Handweaver’s Pattern Directory, page 32). I also chose an off-white yarn that brought a lot of lightness to the scarf. This yarn was a blend of merino and Tencel and it was the thickest yarn that I used in all of the series. This resulted in a scarf that is a bit stiffer than the others, but also in a scarf that feels really warm.

For the night scarf, I wove the most complicated weft pattern of the series (Anne Dixon’s The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory, page 33). It had 30 picks in total! I also used some very nice Alpaca-silk yarn for the weft. I added a few rows of grey and navy to replicate starts in the night.

The Bamboo Flower Scarf

And now, let’s take a look at this 4th scarf, the Bamboo Flower scarf! I really like how it turned out. Bamboo yarn gave a really interesting look to the scarf. First, it’s as shiny as Tencel, which made a silky looking scarf. Also, it created a scarf that has a lot of drapes.

Also, it’s the scarf that shrank the most of the four! This is something that I’ll have to keep in mind in my next projects woven with Bamboo. Plus, I feel like the flower effect is a success! I really see them in the pattern.
